The first way is true faith. Faith is total, inward submission to God.  It glorifies only God, the total Giver.  His incredibly gracious Gift can only be believed and received freely, “just as you are,” and the total joy of the receiver is forever found in the Giver.  There is no selfish striving in faith.  It   is rest and peace.  It is open and free. It is pure, holy, patient and humble.  It transforms the soul.  It is filled with God, who is love, because it sees His only Son, Jesus, whom He gave for each one of us.

Jesus is God’s appointed Heir, “through whom He made the universe.  The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.  After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”[i]

This Jesus obeyed His Father by suffering on the cross for everyone: “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!  Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”[2]   “…Christ died for the ungodly.”[3]  “…The LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”4
